The infamous My Lai Massacre site is about 14km from Quang Ngai and 124 km from Hoi An to the North .The search-and-destroy operation , which was carried out by Task Force Barker consisting of three companies of US Army infantry , began on the morning of 16 March 1968 .
As the soldiers of Lieutenant William Calley’s 1st Platoon – one of three Platoons of Charlie Company commanded by Captain Ernest Medina-moved through Xom Lang, they shot and bayonnetted fleeing villagers, threw hand grenades into houses and family bomb shelters, slaughtered livestock and burned dwellings . In the next few hours ,the 2nd platoon , the 3rd Platoon and the company headquarters group committed terrible crimes .As a result more than 300 villagers were killed in the operation .There was no resistance during the combat assault .
We will walk around the village to visit the Memorial and the museum related to the massacre . Drive back to Hoi An . End of Services
